Get practical Even though its distinctive interlocking Y pattern is being sported by every Johnny-come-lately pop star and celebrity these days, Goyard has, thankfully, remained classy and above the fray. We love its new collection of practical bags, such as the Grand Bleu GM Noir satchel bag (above right; HK$20,000) and the super-slim Sorbonne document holder (above left; HK$14,500), which is the perfect size for a tablet. Goyard is in The Peninsula, Salisbury Road, Tsim Sha Tsui, tel: 2722 0398.

Industrial revelation Established brands hooking up with star industrial designers is, on paper, a sure-fire winner, unless, of course, the brand calls up Karim Rashid. Shudder. G-Star, on the other hand, has got it consistently right in working with Marc Newson and we're big fans of his graphic T-shirts (above; HK$895 each), which are playful and look cool. G-Star is in Times Square, Causeway Bay, tel: 3101 0520.

Mountain men In this stifling heat many of us would kill for a weekend away in the Alps, just think of all those mountain streams, lush meadows and all that chocolate. Breathing in the crisp, bracing mountain air of Switzerland might be hard to schedule for some of us but we can console ourselves with a Bally summer look straight from the mountains. We adore the rugged ensemble of leather T-shirt (HK$14,990), leather shorts (HK$17,990), suede tote bag (HK$22,990) and hiking boots (all above left; HK$9,990). We also love the look of suede jacket (HK$32,990), leather trousers (HK$23,990), business bag (HK$22,990) and leather chukka boots (all above right; HK$6,790). Bally is in Times Square, Causeway Bay, tel: 2506 3312.

As old as you feel For 126 years, venerable English shoemaker Church's made solid, reliable and timeless shoes. Then, in 1999, the Italians took over. Since it's been under the auspices of Prada, Church's has done a Benjamin Button and started to get more youthful. We love the outrageous update of the staple brogue shoe, with stud detailing and red leather (above; HK$5,900). We're also sure you'll like the very Italian slip-on loafer (top; HK$3,600) with a crown pattern that gives it a regal flair. Church's is in Prince's Building, Central, tel: 2536 0462.
