Carry it forward Sci-fi is well and truly dominating pop culture at the moment, which makes a welcome change from all the vampires and zombies. And Burberry Prorsum is getting in on the act, with this great metallic leather carrier bag (above right; HK$12,000). If that's too futuristic for you, then we recommend a touch of the old world, with this garnet diamond-print tote (above left; HK$7,900). Burberry Prorsum is in Pacific Place, Admiralty, tel: 2918 4010.

Off-court action With Wimbledon in full swing you might be toying with the idea of hitting the court for a couple of sets. In this heat, though, our advice is to stay indoors and watch the tennis on TV. You can still show your love for the game with a pair of Lacoste 80th Anniversary sunglasses. The brand, which was established by French tennis great Rene Lacoste, is in full celebratory mode this year with these white navigator-style glasses (above right; HK$1,470) inspired by the glory days of the 1970s and 80s. If retro Lacoste isn't your thing, then maybe try a more modern pair of aviators (above left; HK$1,265), which still have accents of the iconic pique polo pattern on the arms. Lacoste is available at Hong Kong Optical, 9 Yee Wo Street, Causeway Bay, tel: 2576 2669.

Preppy state of mind The world is full of surprises: tomatoes are fruit not vegetables; Russell Crowe is technically a Kiwi; and Harmont & Blaine isn't from America's preppy East Coast. Despite its Italian beginnings, though, the brand has cornered the aforementioned look, as seen in the lovely long-sleeve henley (above right; HK$2,780) and the colourful button-down shirt (above left; HK$2,180). Harmont & Blaine is in The Landmark, Central, tel: 2722 9671.

Shorts selling We have a bit of a thing about shorts: they're fine for sports, but they're not exactly gentlemanly attire, are they? In this heat, though, we must admit defeat - it's just too damn hot to not wear shorts. This is where DKNY Jeans comes in handy, with its teakwood trekker-style shorts (HK$990), transformer jacket with hood (HK$2,190) and chambray shirt (HK$1,190; all above left). We also like the deep blue of the striped drawstring shorts (HK$790), matching jacket (HK$1,790) and grey poplin slim shirt (HK$990; all above right). DKNY Jeans is in Times Square, Causeway Bay, tel: 2506 3181.
