Star trick A celebrity endorsement means a lot in the cutthroat world of fashion, and Hong Kong in particular is far from immune to the lure of a famous face. Canto-pop star Ella Koon Yun-na was recently photographed wearing these two items from American Vintage and while we'd never rave about a label just because a celeb was caught wearing it, we have to say we're big fans of this brand. The items in question are the cute boubou-style red jacket (above right; HK$1,900) and the light and airy purple top with a pomegranate-flower pattern (above left; HK$900). American Vintage is in Hysan Place, 500 Hennessy Road, Causeway Bay, tel: 2375 8038.
Eye catching This season, Givenchy's line of sunglasses has caught our eye. The Wayfarer-esque pair in blue with silver-grey arms (below; HK$2,000) is chic yet subtle. For something a bit more 1970s, the big, bold, olive green pair is a funky stand out (above; HK$1,800). The sunglasses are available at Puyi Optical, Lee Gardens, Causeway Bay, tel: 2890 7070.
Get a grip Tom Ford is not only a style maven when it comes to clothes, he nails it with bold-looking bags, too. We particularly like this gorgeous, pop art-like clutch (below right; HK$67,500) and the beaded leopard-skin clutch with a quirky ring handle (below left; HK$18,200). For a simpler look, there's the big red tote (right; HK$18,900), with zippers on either side. Tom Ford is in Harbour City, Tsim Sha Tsui, tel: 2175 4738.
Shoe stoppersThe British do classic, conventional shoes; the Italians chic and stylish. The Germans, on the other hand, rarely get a mention when it comes to women's footwear. With that in mind, we didn't expect to be so impressed by these (slightly kinky) pairs from German brand Lloyd, but we particularly like the studded flat in orange (below right; HK$2,580) and the black leather heel (below left; HK$2,580) with double straps. Lloyd is available at Sogo, 555 Hennessy Road, tel: 2831 8969.
