Behind the label: Maryling

Who started it? Former Giorgio Armani senior designer Angelo Katsapis founded Maryling in Italy, in 2010, with the aim of providing women with a 24/7 wardrobe full of sophisticated items and accessories. The brand, which now has creative teams in Milan, London and Hong Kong, says its autumn-winter 2013 collection combines “low fi luxe and high end chic”.

Why we love it: we all know being a modern, feminine, elegant woman is not in the least bit effortless. And while Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger is to be applauded for taking to the brand’s all-leather look (right), it is perhaps not an outfit we’d choose to roll right out of bed into. Instead, look for the quality separates: the short leather jackets would be great for the approaching seasonal shift, while the textured knit skirts offer a cutting-edge structured look.

What we’d pick: the tailored blue wool coat (HK$7,660) with fresh beige shirt (HK$3,460), black waffle cotton shorts (HK$2,160) and smart leather bag (HK$12,590; all left), or the structured Burgundy Mania knit sporty skirt (HK$3,260) with matching jacket (HK$5,260; both far left).
