Behind the label: ffiXXed

Who started it? When fashion designer Fiona Lau and artist Kain Picken met at art school in Melbourne, Australia, the two fell in love. The couple relocated to Berlin, Germany, where, after making clothes for themselves to begin with, they established the ffiXXed brand. Currently based in Hong Kong with a production base in a Shenzhen village, ffiXXed earned recognition this year by winning the Asian leg of the pres-tigious Woolmark Prize.

Why we love it: we can't get enough of the unisex concept: the majority of the garments in the autumn-winter 2013 collection work for both men and women. It's one piece, two styles - "save money, live better" is one of ffiXXed's mottos. With its liberal use of hand-knitting combined with an edgy downtown chic, the brand's modern spirit is a breath of fresh air. We particularly like the contemporary cuts and high-end fabrics, while the garments' versatility means several outfits can be built from one item.

What we'd pick: we like the exotic sectional scarf-turned jacket (HK$2,180) paired with staple unisex sweat pants (HK$2,500; both above right) for the season transition ahead. If you want to keep it simple and neat, try the blue mix Tsui Tsui jacket (top; HK$7,440), a unisex hippie-style winter jacket featuring thick wool, deep pockets and a drop-shoulder design.
