Cover girls She may have only opened her first standalone boutique in Hong Kong last month, but Marie France Van Damme's sleek, sexy and elegant resortwear has been around for years, stocked in upmarket stores such as Neiman Marcus in the United States and Harrods of London. Popular with the Hong Kong in-crowd, this Zebra Palm long kaftan (above; HK$4,630) makes for a great, glam beach cover-up. Our favourite, though, is the Feather Babani cover-up (HK$5,060) with matching Nageur swimsuit (HK$2,400; both left). Marie France Van Damme is in IFC Mall, Central, tel: 2882 9088.
Tall tales Shoe designer Charlotte Dellal (of Charlotte Olympia) is known for skyscraper heels and tongue-in-cheek designs as well as a rather glamorous family tree comprising various models and designers. For her autumn-winter collection, she has proffered nods to popular fairy tales. We love the wonderful Rapunzel wedged sandal (above left; HK$13,000) for its element of drama. And for those who prefer their feet closer to the ground, there's the black cat flat (above right; HK$5,900). The shoes are available at the Charlotte Olympia pop-up store in The Landmark, Central, tel: 2562 3009.
Hot to handle Gucci’s bamboo-handle bag is a vintage classic, so much so that it stars in a short film titled Bamboo Confidential, which was released last month and celebrates the Italian label’s more iconic pieces. Set in London’s Savoy Hotel, where the brand’s founder, Guccio Gucci, worked as a lift boy in the 1900s, the storyline, we are told, is a tale of “seduction and pursuit”. Fret not, there are modern versions of the bag available, including the black leather Bamboo Shopper (above left; HK$19,990) and its daring leopard-print sister (above right; HK$26,500). Gucci is in The Landmark, tel: 2524 4492.
