Behind the label: Pallas

Divia Harilela

A relative newcomer to the retail scene, privately owned Parisian atelier Pallas is known for its petite couture tailoring. Launched in 1961, the maison has for decades collaborated with luxury houses such as Balenciaga, Karl Lagerfeld and Céline, helping to produce some of their most iconic fashion pieces. This season, Pallas is launching its first capsule collection, based on Yves Saint Laurent's iconic Le Smoking silhouette.

if you are a fan of tailoring, then this is the brand for you. Pallas' creations are as close to couture as you can get. Each of the designs is cut by hand and assembled by one tailor from start to finish, so everything is made in limited quantities. The collection features seven silhouettes and was designed and inspired by Belgian model Hannelore Knuts, a favourite of designer Azzedine Alaia. The result is an edgy yet glamorous collection of jackets and other separates with precise cuts and pure lines. The colour palette is mainly black, navy and white.

the collection explores shapes and volumes, ranging from a fitted backless halter-neck waistcoat to the classic tuxedo jacket. Highlights include the sexy tailored jumpsuit (far right; £1,548/HK$19,400) and the cropped tuxedo jacket (right; £1,100), which is a modern spin on the classic Le Smoking.

Pallas is available through British online retailer www.ln-cc.com.
