Behind the label: Brigetta Jewellery

Divia Harilela

Based in San Francisco and Hong Kong, Bridget King started creating jewellery as a cash-strapped student at the University of California, Los Angeles. After graduating, the Taiwan native turned her eye to fashion and enjoyed a successful career as a ready-to-wear designer, before settling in Hong Kong and launching Brigetta Jewellery, in 2003. Her chic, semi-precious rings and earrings were soon picked up by international retailers including Lane Crawford, Harvey Nichols and Henri Bendel, and worn by celebrities such as Nicole Kidman.

although King started out making costume jewellery, she has since expanded her range to include precious stones, diamonds, 18-carat gold and bespoke items. Her style is classic and elegant, but each design comes with a fashion-forward twist. Many of the styles are interchangeable and can be worn in different ways. Her latest collection, Prism, features geometric diamond studs set in silver. Also new is the Kaleidoscope collection, which includes diamond earrings with detachable coloured stones.

the three classic diamond teardrop hoops in 18-carat rose gold from the Icons collection, which can be worn separately or as a set (above right; HK$42,200). For something a little edgier there are the geometric diamond studs (top left; HK$8,800). The white opal and feldspar stone earrings, with diamonds set in black gold (above left; HK$18,000), would be just the thing to add a dramatic flourish to an outfit.

Brigetta Jewellery is hosting a trunk show on Tuesday from 10am to 8pm at Kee Club, 6/F, 32 Wellington Street, Central, tel: 2810 9000. The items are also available at www.brigettajewellery.com
