1. The flat lady sings! If Karl Lagerfeld thinks so, then it must be true. Flats, whether they are sandals, trainers or slip-on skate shoes, are back with a vengeance. The practical girls among us can rejoice as, for once, summer fashions turn towards sturdy forms, thick straps – and no heels. Marni, the quirky Italian label always ahead of its time, has produced some of the best pool sider-esque sandals of the season. We love the black flat embellished with big chunky red and clear gemstones (right; HK$6,600) and the metallic hues of the vintageinspired sandal with oversized fringe tongue (left; HK$4,900), both of which are available at Lane Crawford.

2. Daydream believer Jing and Kay Wong, the brother and sister founders of local label Daydream Nation, like to fly under the radar. Back in 2006, theirs was one of the city's most interesting start-ups at a time when fashion was still dominated by big Western brands. The whimsical spirit and off-kilter aesthetic of the label has continued to win fans. We love this child-like Octagonal bracelet (left; HK$1,200) and quirky chain necklace (right; HK$1,900). Daydream Nation is available at Cocktail, Leighton Centre, Causeway Bay, tel: 2907 4388.

3. Pulling muscle Summer doesn’t have to be all about girly floral dresses and bright prints, especially when it comes to eveningwear. We want to exude some mystery while we look seductively across the room at handsome men at cocktail parties. Haider Ackermann has just what you need for balmy nights filled with potential intrigue. We love the wispy tulle-top lamé plisse gown (right; HK$33,400), which is nothing short of daring and might require a bit of Hollywood tape or strategic holding of champagne flute. For those who like a bit more security up top, there’s the Coronus cross-front top (HK$11,900) and Poseidon sheer hem metallic plissé wrap skirt (HK$20,900; both left). Good luck with the seductress routine! Haider Ackermann is available at Lane Crawford, IFC Mall, Central, tel: 2118 3388.
