Dandy & Dapper

Very funny. But, yes, big, bad stripes on knits are so hot for winter 2014, I can't even tell you. Actually, I can. I'm just crazy for the blocks of colour by Ovadia & Sons, including blue, grey and red, or black and white, on wool/cashmere jumpers and turtlenecks (HK$3,500 to HK$3,700; Lane Crawford). Kolor takes colour-blocking to another level in cashmere and wool blends, and a long-sleeved tee in stripes of green velvet and blue jersey (HK$3,900; Lane Crawford). Speaking of cool, hip brand Maison Kitsune has alpaca and wool striped jumpers in cream, burgundy and grey (HK$3,990; Kapok, 3 Sun Street, Wan Chai, tel: 2520 0114). Diesel's red, black and white stripes come in a fluffy mohair mix (HK$1,800). Hypebeast (www.hypebeast.com) has some amazing brands you might never have heard of, such as Fuct SSDD. Take a look at its acrylic/wool jumper with big, bold black and white stripes (HK$1,023).
Wide stripes on jumpers are hardly new. I'm partial to fuss-free American labels, such as Lands' End, which ships to Hong Kong. In its current catalogue, you will find the cotton-blend Shaker Rollneck Sweater in classic Breton or multi-coloured stripes (HK$575.70; landsend.com) and the cotton Drifter Stripe Crewneck jumper with wide bands of autumnal colours (HK$492.30).

Of course. Instead of dark brown, consider a more Italian caramel brown. Louis Vuitton carries an unrivalled range of briefcases in a spectrum of tones and materials, including the light brown Nomade Leather collection in the small Honore to the large Robusto 2 models (HK$24,300 to HK$51,500). Something else that might appeal is the Document Holder bag by Tod's, made in a modern, simple design from either pebble leather (HK$10,900) or ultra-soft calfskin (HK$16,800). Colours range from caramel brown to bright blue, and several others in between. Please note one should ensure shoes, belt and other leather accessories are of the same tone.

Colour, Dapper! Not more brown, thank you very much. I say go for it, man. And I don't mean neutrals. Both of the above brands are rocking some beautiful bright blues. So is Alfred Dunhill, believe it or not, whose Bourdon zip briefcase comes in royal blue and turquoise, not to mention red and light grey (HK$8,995 each). Along the same, minimalist lines, there's the Prada zip-top Saffiano bag in blues, browns, or forest green (HK$19,550). No one said you can't rock a few colours, either. Check out Bottega Veneta's Intrecciato (woven) briefcases, from solid colours to the Club Fume style with centre stripes of aubergine and Edoardo brown, flanked by either emerald green or bronze (HK$22,500 to HK$31,500).
