The lowdown on stretch suits and travel suits from Dandy & Dapper
Hello? Of course there's such a thing. The "moving" bit refers to fabric that is non-restrictive, with enough "give" to allow the wearer to lay down his best moves in style. Neil Barrett makes slim-cut suits in a wool blended with elastane and poly that fit the bill, including a two-button version in black or charcoal stripe (HK$12,800 to HK$14,900) and a peak lapel suit in black (HK$16,500). If navy is more your thing, check out the slim-fit suit by Lanvin (HK$22,200). Burberry's got a whole Travel Tailoring collection with suits in an amazing selection of partially stretchy fabrics and colours (about HK$19,500 each).
Gentlemen, the labels inside off-the-rack suiting will tell you the fabric content in each piece. In general, if present, stretch materials such as Lycra make up 2 to 3 per cent of the fabric. Paul Smith does a travel suit in black, charcoal or navy with a ratio of 98 per cent wool to 2 per cent Lycra (HK$11,650). It should be noted, however, that fine wool does offer some stretch. J. Crew's Ludlow and Crosby travel suits (HK$4,580 per jacket; HK$2,550 per trouser) are made entirely of Italian wool woven for extra elasticity. Similarly, Canali's travel suit is also 100 per cent wool, in beige or blue (HK$16,000).
