What’s the story? Stephanie Rehault and Corina Mihaila Larpin founded Stéfère in 2005. Rehault had previously studied at renowned French design school ESMOD (École Supérieure des Arts et Techniques de la Mode) and worked as a designer for a diamond dealer in Geneva, in Switzerland. Larpin is a Romanian-born designer who divides her time between Geneva and Hong Kong.

Why we love it: this duo are not afraid to experiment, creating pieces that are classic, elegant, adventurous and elaborate. Rings are a strong point, especially those that cover the entire digit. Just be warned: your finger movements will be restricted by these creations. This is not a jewellery brand wherein the gemstone is king. Instead, line, pattern and form take precedence in the creation of contemporary pieces. Celebrity fans include Victoria Beckham, Penelope Cruz and Elton John.

What we’d pick: we’re fond of the Line Collection, which is clean and minimal. The designers say, “We were inspired by the long lines of elevators, people walking along the stores on Canton Road and small alleyways of Hong Kong to create this collection.” Standouts include the Sirene ring (above left; HK$132,600), which fuses pink and white gold with white pavé diamonds, and, for showstopping chandelier-mimicking effect, the Cascade earrings (above centre; HK$117,780) in pink gold and brown diamonds. If you’re after more fanciful jewellery, try the Diamond Leaf earrings (above right; HK$24,570), which is feminine and girly.
