What’s the story? After three years spent designing accessories for Kenneth Cole, Sally LaPointe had had enough: “I wanted to do something more creative and less commercial,” she says. Her eponymous label started as a two-person team, with LaPointe at the creative helm and her best friend on the books. Six years on, she’s the talk of tinsel town, having dressed the likes of Lady Gaga, Katy Perry and Rita Ora.

Why we love it: Gaga chose LaPointe’s floor-length black dress with a descending V-neck and extra-large shoulder pads, which is wonderfully dramatic, but, for everyday wear, we’re gaga for the designer’s draped silk blouses, leather trousers and sleek, high-necked knitwear. Draping, folds and loose knots create casual details on formal work dresses while quirky pleating on blazers and skirts make ordinary pieces stand out.

What we’d pick: we love the iridescent dress with a thick knot at the waist (above right; HK$21,000), and pleated black blazer (HK$18,900) with joggers (HK$9,900; both above left), for an ensemble that looks off-the-cuff and utterly chic.

Where can you get it? Sally LaPointe is available at Harvey Nichols, Pacific Place, Admiralty.
