Kara LaMoure is scheduled to perform at the Fringe Club on Thursday with her all-female group, The Breaking Winds Bassoon Quartet. Their comedic covers incorporate whoopie-cushions and kazoos, and have become a social media sensation; the band's YouTube channel has had over one million hits. Formed in 2008, when its members were undergraduates at a New York music conservatory, the group shot to fame in 2010 with a viral video titled Lady Gaga Saga

Born Stefani Germanotta, the world's 25th highest paid celebrity is as famed for her outrageous outfits as she is for her music: in December 2013, she stepped out in London with a christmas tree on her head and, in 2010, the pop provocateur wore a dress made of 50 pounds of raw meat. Gaga's shock tactics do, however, occasionally stem from refined inspiration: the cover for her 2013 album, "Artpop", in which a naked Gaga's modesty is saved only by her hair, hands and a large blue ball, is apparently a nod to the 15th-century painting The Birth of Venus by Sandro Botticelli …

Despite his love for committing naked women to canvas, the early Renaissance master never committed to one in real life; in fact, Botticelli said the idea of getting married gave him nightmares. He was rumoured, however, to have had a life-long affection for Simonetta Vespucci, who modelled for The Birth of Venus and was a married noblewoman. Botticelli asked to be buried at her feet when he died. As well as being the portraitist of his wealthy patron, Lorenzo de Medici, Botticelli was an illustrator of Dante's Inferno; more than 400 years after the artist's death, these drawings inspired fashion designer Masha Ma …

Botticelli's hellish drawings in a Chinese edition of the epic poem alerted Ma, aged 12, to the possibility of censorship in her homeland: "The Chinese translation made the text sound like a happy Sunday outing, but the drawings depicted a bloody nightmare." Four years later, Ma left Beijing for London, to study at Central Saint Martins, and then launched her own label. A rising star, in March, Ma was asked by British Airways to design a Sino-British themed skin for one of its Boeing 777-200s (she intertwined a red rose with a snake), and countless celebrities have worn her designs, including Naomi Campbell, Lady Gaga and Georgia May Jagger …

Such is the cultural clout of the English model and daughter of Rolling Stones' singer Mick Jagger that in 2010 The Guardian newspaper reported that her signature gapped-tooth smile had led to a rise in models having brackets inserted between their front teeth. In 2012, Jagger and her pearly whites took part in a celebration of British fashion at the closing ceremony of the London Olympics; also involved in the festivities was musician Howard Shore …

With three Academy Awards, three Golden Globes and four Grammys to his name, the prolific Canadian composer has written music for more than 80 films - most famously, he penned the Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit scores. The music for the latter was recorded by the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, in the bassoon section of which was one Kara LaMoure.
