Before the Dawn
In 2014, legendary songstress Kate Bush made a surprising return to the stage, with a run of 22 London shows. It was the first time the British singer had performed live since 1979 and the anticipation and expectation were phenomenal. These visually and sonically stunning performances were a once-in-a-lifetime experience, something a small group of lucky fans would be telling their grandchildren about for years to come. Produced by Bush herself, Before the Dawn is the live documentation of this grandstanding theatrical event. While the show’s main focus is on two of Bush’s less obvious works, her voice and performance are still astounding. There’s no Wuthering Heights, but we do get mesmerising versions of Hounds of Love and Running Up That Hill. None of the 29 tracks featured here has been re-recorded or overdubbed, so this is Bush as raw as if she were singing in your flat.
