Priscilla Ahn
La La La
In a Tree Inc

Not to be confused with the award-winning La La Land (2017), on which her voice can be heard, La La La is the latest album by American singer-songwriter Priscilla Ahn, and her first foray into the world of children’s music. Ahn, who will play the Kitec Music Zone on May 11, says she was inspired by the birth of her first son to write songs “that moved children to happy places, but also to introspective and imaginative places”. Although the album’s 12 whimsical tracks may be in a simpler and more innocent form of her usual mellow folk-pop, the singer’s ethereal voice and playful melodies suit this new chapter of her career. Ahn wrote the theme tune to Studio Ghibli’s Oscar-nominated animated movie When Marnie Was There (2014) and, much like that composition, La La Larefuses to dumb things down for its younger audience. Sure, there are plenty of plinking xylophones and childish harmonies, as on the infectious Dust Bunny, but there are also many lilting pop gems that won’t drive parents insane.
