Get linked So you need a Christmas gift idea that isn't unimaginative and cheap like socks, weird like underwear, or going to break the bank like leather goods. Options are limited but you can't really go wrong with cufflinks. Guys love cufflinks and it's one of those things they'll always be happy to have more of. Thomas Pink does a bewildering array of cufflinks but we like the animal-themed ones that include the British bulldog (above left; HK$2,000) and the cheeky fox (above right; also HK$2,000). Thomas Pink is in Pacific Place, Admiralty.

Loose change The current obsession with baggy and oversized clothes is a little too much for us. Thankfully, Bottega Veneta is one of the few that has tempered the shift to looser fits, with a gradual widening of trousers and tops, such as in this look of corduroy jacket (HK$9,300), cashmere jumper (HK$9,800) and dry wool trousers (HK$9,300) accessorised with grey silk tie (HK$1,800), ostrich leather bag in rust (HK$88,000) and calf leather ankle boots (HK$8,800; all above left). The second look is similar in fit and features a wool and polyester jumper (HK$10,900), cotton shirt (HK$6,900) and navy denim trousers (HK$4,500) complimented by a silk tie (HK$1,800), herringbone linen, cotton and leather braces (HK$3,500), purple ostrich leather bag (HK$88,000) and calf leather and suede lace-up shoes (HK$8,350; all above right). Bottega Veneta is in The Landmark.

Shoe-stoppers As with most things in his rather odd life, Kanye West's fashion dalliances suck up a lot of, often unmerited, attention. West's trainer collaboration with Adidas in particular is a touch "meh" and deflects interest away from the great partnerships the German brand has had with other, more talented designers. We've talked about the Raf Simons x Adidas offerings before, but the bright red and super comfortable Ozweego 2 (above right; HK$3,250) is a real statement shoe that has a little more pizazz than Simons usually goes for. We also love the darkly gothic Adidas x Juun.J high-top ZX 8000 (above left; HK$4,590), which sees the South Korean designer put a distinctly high-fashion gloss on a classic. Take that Kanye! The collections are available from Harvey Nichols in The Landmark, Central.

Buckle up John Lobb started branching out, tentatively it must be said, into non-shoe-related leather goods a few years ago but the august English brand owned by Hermès has hit its stride and now makes rather spiffing things like belts, which are as good as the footwear. The new belt collection features a variety of colours and two styles, the Hyde (above; HK$5,300) and the Austell (top; also HK$5,300) the major difference being the buckle. John Lobb is in the Mandarin Oriental hotel, 5 Connaught Road, Central.
