I'm looking for a 1970s-style top or dress I can only describe it as being like one of those old-fashioned hanging plant holders. That's how I imagine you'd describe it to make fun of me, too! Is it macramé?

Make Mine Macramé, Central

The Dictator rules: Believe me, if I wanted to make fun of you, I'd think of something much more cutting. Macramé is a knotted, not woven, textile said to originate from decorative knotting used by sailors in the 1800s. In stores, you're more likely to find crocheted pieces, made with a special needle to loop or knit rope or yarn to similar effect. Start your search with online vintage retailers. Etsy.com, of course, has the macramé tops you're looking for at Magic Phoenix Vintage (HK$92), Enid and Edgar (HK$304) and Stardust Vintage LA (HK$360), and scroll through its handmade offerings such as those by Flavour Knit, Wall Knot and Karibbean Krochet. Now to the malls. Alice + Olivia has a sleeveless, fringed, V-neck top in a linen-blend yarn that would fit right into a 70s hippy scene (HK$2,790; IFC Mall, Central) and a crocheted, linen-blend dress in beige or black (HK$4,890). Cute label Sea New York is awash with crochet, including tops, dresses and cardigans (from HK$2,490 at Rue Madame, IFC Mall). The Boho boutique also has lovely crochet pieces by Jolie Jolie, Mes Demoiselles and Valeri Khalfon. And we love the macramé lace at No21, Jonathan Simkhai, Christopher Kane and others.

Adult acne. Ugh! I seem to spend all my time applying spot medication then trying to cover it with make-up. Is there something that does both?

The Dictator: Women around the world would benefit from a good medicated concealer, so I will indulge you. Perricone MD's No Concealer Concealer (HK$290; Joyce Beauty, Gateway Arcade, Harbour City) contains hyaluronic acid, vitamin C and phospholipids to brighten, smooth and hide trouble spots and dark under-eye circles. The Sensual Skin Enhancer, by Kevyn Aucoin (HK$420; Joyce), was created in pursuit of a perfect geisha's complexion, and can be used for concealing, highlighting or contouring. Blemish Remedy Concealer, a twist-up pencil from Bare Minerals (HK$210; Faces, Ocean Terminal, Tsim Sha Tsui), calms redness and covers zits while soaking up excess oil with kaolin clay. Most women know about Clinique's Anti-Blemish Solutions Clearing Concealer (HK$170; Faces), an oil-free formula that hides and clears breakouts as it reduces redness. Per-fekt makes Skin Perfection Conceal (HK$230; www.sephora.hk), a colour gel designed to camouflage blemishes, dark eye circles and even broken capillaries. Finally, Jane Iredale's Disappear concealer (HK$320; www.janeiredale.com.hk) goes on matte and opaque to conceal imperfections.
