There’s something seductive about the thought of a new beginning. The pristine virginity of a blank slate and the heady allure of infinite possibilities make for a potent combination, and it’s not hard to see how this inspires the world’s most brilliant minds to do what they do best – create.

Loathe as I am to style myself one of the world’s more brilliant minds, there was nevertheless a distinct element of creation involved with this relaunch of STYLE, and it spans the artistic genius of our designers and the vision of our editors to the stunning aesthetics put forth this season by the world’s top stylemakers.

With the new STYLE, we aim to be the voice of Asia’s avant-garde, that growing population of refined, cultured, successful individuals who have an appreciation for the finer things in life and are eager to find out more about what it truly means to live a life of privilege. These readers lead lives that make a difference, and as such they look for things that are different, things that are unique, unusual, one-of-a-kind – this is the new face of luxury.

What we offer, then, is a more intellectual, insightful look at the business of style. These are stories that do more than just scratch the surface. It’s not enough, for example, for us to simply provide reports of events and happenings; instead, we’ll go beyond the pedantic to bring our readers stories that mean something to them, that touch on areas that affect them on a personal level, in a wide range of topics that truly reflect the diversified interests of today’s avant-garde.

For this launch issue, we pay tribute to these incredible sources of inspiration in the realm of luxury. Our main story is an analytical take on what happens to brand DNA and identity as designers move between the industry’s top fashion houses. We take a moment to fantasise as one of the city’s top interior designers creates a HK$10 million walk-in closet of our dreams.

We interview a visionary of the watch industry and we also explore the world of luxury cars, discovering what it means to have a bespoke automobile tailor-made to our needs. For those of you who harbour a guilty interest in the lives of celebrities, we step into the homes of the rich and famous, and in another story, we take a look at how some of the world’s most recognisable faces are putting their name to the bottle and investing in vineyards everywhere from Anjou to Argentina.

It's an issue of new ventures and beginnings, and it’s my hope that we continue to explore how imagination and creativity endure in this notoriously fickle world, and in doing so, we may be able to live our lives with a little more grace, a little more luxury, a little more STYLE.
