EVENT Gucci Iconic Horsebit Loafer 60th Anniversary Cocktail
WHERE IFC Mall, Central
HAPPENINGS: Now that craftsmanship is almost the new religion in the world of luxury, Gucci played their cards right by flying shoe artisans from its Florentine leather goods factory to town to demonstrate the making of the brand's iconic loafers.
Apart from showcasing the stitching, hardware application and leather polishing at the private cocktail event, the artisans also invited guests for a hands-on experience - and guests had fun hammering heels and dying a piece of leather. We spotted model Kathy Chow checking out the different kinds of leather used to make the loafers while Taiwan-based heartthrob Wu Chun carefully studied the stitches of an unfinished shoe. Other stars who enjoyed cocktails included Janet Ma, Alex Lam and Victoria Tang. After the cocktail party, the exhibition continued for its public run. Precious loafers from Gucci's archives were on display.

How much of a shoe addict are you?
I haven’t counted how many pairs exactly, but I do have a lot. I can’t even open my shoe closet without a few pairs falling out.
Do your daughters sometimes raid your closet?
It’s actually the other way around these days. My days of being a shopaholic are long gone but my girls still shop a lot. Sometimes, I find pieces from their closets for myself.
Have you ever tripped on the runway?
I have indeed. It’s quite painful, but it’s part of a model’s job. I still had to finish my job on the catwalk even if I had just twisted my ankle.
Do you have any summer getaway plans with your family?
We’ll probably just take a short trip to a golf resort on the mainland because my husband has jobs in town and one of my daughters has just started her internship.
