Valentino’s design duo Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli have taken the past few seasons on a globe-trotting journey and this season, they have landed in primitive and wild tribal Africa. The references are loud and clear yet feature Valentino’s sensual and ultra-feminine aesthetics.

1.Modern interpretations of ethnic looks: Tie-dye parkas, utility jackets and cargo pants.

2.Haute-couture techniques – embroidery and micro-beaded patterns and bold peacock feather trims.

3. Valentino is one of the latest luxury fashion houses to jump on the fine jewellery bandwagon. Developed in collaboration with artist and jeweller Alessandro Gaggio, showpieces included wearable arts featuring African tribal motifs.

4. The African inspirations, the designers said post-show, weren’t just aesthetics but also took into consideration African refugees moving to southern Italy to make a better life for themselves.

5. Will the cool Afro braids become the new top knot next season?
