EVENT LANE CRAWFORD ‘VISIONS FROM A NEW GENERATION’ EXHIBITION
WHERE LANE CRAWFORD FLAGSHIP STORE, SHANGHAI

HAPPENINGS: Celebrating its 165th anniversary, Lane Crawford organised the "Visions From A New Generation" exhibition in collaboration with Swarovski. The exhibition featured 11 up-and-coming designers and design brands from Hong Kong and the mainland, including Shu Shu/Tong, Benwu Studio, Naihan Li, Sky Yutaka, Wan Hung-cheung, The Fabrick Lab, Ejing Zhang and Angel Chen. The young designers each created a showpiece that demonstrated their understanding of Chinese aesthetics and projection of the future. The creative pack turned out en masse at the exhibition's opening cocktail. Multimedia musician GayBird was flown in from Hong Kong to spin for the party.

OVERHEARD Lane Crawford has gone beyond just another luxury retailer. It is providing a platform for new talents.

CHIC CHAT with Angel Chen

Can you tell us about your working process?

It depends on different collections. Sometimes I do sketches but, for this project, I draped directly on to the mannequin to create the design.

What's your ambition in fashion?

I want to explore different things in my new collections. I don't want to be pigeonholed.

How do you interpret traditional Chinese aesthetics?

I moved abroad when I was young so you won't see a lot of traditional motifs in my collections.

How about this project with Lane Crawford?

I did some research on traditional Chinese culture. This dress is inspired by Chinese acupuncture.
