American artist William Copley was renowned for his iconoclastic paintings inspired by European surrealism and American pop art. In memory of the post-war luminary's career, Fondazione Prada has developed an editorial project, William N. Copley, over more than 20 years, accompanying a retrospective exhibition until January 2017.

Dedicated to contemporary art and culture, Fondazione Prada has teamed up with the Menil Collection to publish the publication comprising more than 600 illustrations, six essays by critics and art historians, and an extensive chronology of the artist's career.

Together with the exhibition, being hosted at The Menil Collection in Houston and Fondazione Prada in Milan, the project explores Copley's career as a painter, writer, publisher, gallerist, collector and art entrepreneur. To recall the evolution of his style, the project looks into the messages behind the irony and eroticism.
