Set against the dramatic backdrop of the Eiffel Tower, Saint Laurent’s autumn/winter 2018 show was packed with statement outfits that highlighted creative director Anthony Vaccarello’s modern take on the heritage house.

Black set the tone for the collection. Models opened the show with barely there leather hot pants matched with sleek Le Smoking jackets, see-through lace shirts and tops embroidered or trimmed with tassels.

The exaggerated strong shoulder details as well as plunging necklines from the spring collection continue in the autumn/winter season.

Saint Laurent’s Anthony Vaccarello reinterprets iconic looks against a sparkling Eiffel Tower

“The show begins with dark silhouettes, a sharp mysterious elegance, and then it turns into a colourful, opulent atmosphere, a bright spirit,” Vaccarello says. “I really like woman’s duality, [it’s] very Saint Laurent.”

According to the designer, the collection is a reinterpretation of the Russian collection created by the brand’s late founder in the 1970s. The intricate floral embellishments of a series of mini dresses flaunt the house’s excellent craftsmanship and traditional design codes.

Six heels to turn heads and push fashion boundaries

Following spring’s dramatic crystal-studded slouchy boots, Vaccarello unveiled yet another “boots of the season”– versatile chunky platform heels – which are paired with many of the sleek leather shorts ensembles.
