Jaguar F-Type vs Ferrari SF90 Stradale: 2020’s hottest new supercars head-to-head

The year 2020 has seen the release of two exciting supercar models: the latest F-Type from Jaguar, seen here, and the SF90 Spider, a topless model of the SF90 Stradale. Photo: Jaguar

Although it’s been a difficult year for the motoring industry with the pandemic-era world doing a lot less driving, luxurious car brands have still managed to excite petrolheads with a few new model launches in 2020, albeit mostly through digital rather than physical events.

Jaguar presented the new F-Type sports car with award-winning enhanced design and technology, plus this model is eco-friendlier with filters to reduce emissions. And when we talk about sports car-making mastery, we can’t leave out Ferrari who showed off the new version of SF90 Stradale, the so-called SF90 Spider, thrilling sport cars lovers with its open top.

The new two-seat Jaguar F-Type has arrived, offering a more muscular, assertive design and a cabin defined by luxurious materials and beautiful details.

The range of powerful, responsive engines includes four- and eight-cylinder options, all matched to eight-speed Quickshift transmissions with full manual control using either the Sportshift gear selector or steering wheel-mounted paddles.

The new F-Type offers more driver-focused technology, including a reconfigurable, high-definition, 12.3-inch Interactive Driver Display, Touch Pro infotainment system with Apple CarPlay as standard and software-over-the-air functionality so future software updates can be made at the customer’s convenience. Two superb Meridian sound systems also offer enhanced sound reproduction.

On top of that, efficient, close-coupled particulate filters reduce emissions.

Julian Thomson, design director at Jaguar, said: “Design the most beautiful sports car, with purity, proportion and presence that’s unmistakably Jaguar: that was the challenge we set ourselves. The new F-Type is more dramatic than ever, with even greater clarity of purpose in every line, surface and feature.”

The F-Type’s award-winning design has evolved with a new front bumper and subtly enlarged grille adding to the car’s visual impact and presence.

The spider, or roofless, version of Maranello’s most powerful production supercar will start arriving on forecourts by the second quarter of 2021. The first plug-in hybrid with a retractable hardtop in the Ferrari range is set to deliver unparalleled “en plein air” exhilaration, setting new benchmarks for performance, innovation and the thrill of driving.

This new version of the SF90 Stradale – the SF90 Spider – was unveiled during a dedicated digital event. The convertible has the same extreme supercar specification and record-breaking performance as the Stradale, pushing the car from 0-100km/h in 2.5s and from 0-200km/h in just 7.0s.

With a combination of almost 1,000 horsepower from its three electric motors and one twin-turbocharged V8 conventional engine, the SF90 Spider represents a fundamental revision of the supercar concept that makes it the ideal car for owners that demand the very pinnacle of Ferrari technology but also want to experience the joy of open-top driving.
