When it comes to jewellery to symbolise a marital union, the wedding ring will always take centre stage but there are other types of jewellery that can also be tied to the milestone. From pieces that can be worn every day to bigger designs that can be part of the bridal jewellery trousseau, getting married is the perfect excuse to build on your collection, with the sentimental value attached to them making them immediate heirlooms.

“I would recommend a jewellery piece that is more simple and classic in design which the bride could wear at other occasions and pass onto the next generation,” says Arnaud Bastien, president and chief executive of Graff Diamonds (Asia).

Graff’s Classic Graff collection features timeless designs set in white diamonds, including the diamond double strand knot necklace that is a fitting symbol for a marital union. Brides keen on the knot theme and wanting something that will also go well with the wedding gown might opt for a similar piece from the Tilda’s Bow collection, a romantic design featuring an artful bow in white gold and set with diamonds.

“The design is feminine yet modern, which complements almost any style of wedding gown. The bow is a very classic and timeless design and our craftsmen accentuate the beauty with impeccable diamonds in a fluid and sculptural setting,” says Bastien.

And if a bride ever wanted to dress like a modern-day princess, complete with a tiara, her wedding is the day to do it. Chaumet is famous for being the official jewellery of choice for Joséphine, Empress of the French and Napoleon Bonaparte’s consort, and paid tribute to her with its Joséphine collection. The collection features exquisite tiaras such as the Joséphine Valise Impériale tiara in white gold set with diamonds, in which the brand’s fil couteau technique was used to set the stones to make the diamonds look as if they are suspended – a setting fit for an empress.

Another monarch – Britain’s Queen Victoria – received a ring from husband Prince Albert that was fashioned like a serpent to represent their everlasting love. Bulgari’s iconic Serpenti collection (worn by no less than the princess of pop herself, Taylor Swift) is the place to look for couples wanting the same emblem to wear day-to-day, whether as a watch, pair of earrings, necklace or bracelet.

Another famous collection that is ideal as a symbol of love to wear every day is the popular Love bracelet by Cartier, featuring a bangle design fastened with a special screwdriver and coming in white, or rose gold.

Last but not least, the famous Tiffany & Co. Blue Box is indelibly linked to engagements and the promise of a subsequent wedding, and the box can also house something other than the usual pair of rings. The Tiffany Knot collection is a versatile range that comes in yellow and rose gold, with earrings in rose gold, featuring a pair of slender intertwined strands set in pavé diamonds – an elegant reminder of a marital union to wear daily.
