Porsche had its 18th overall victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans 2016. The competition between Porsche and Toyota was fierce, and it intensified shortly after midnight. The race finished with an unexpected ending. Before the final lap when Toyota was leading the field and expected to win the race, its prototype suffered from power failure and stopped on track.
The winning team, Romain Dumas , Neel Jani and Marc Lieb had the ground-breaking Prosche 919 Hybrid, which won the 662kW prototype in Brazil 2014.
While their teammates in their sister car, Timo Bernhard, Brendon Hartley and Mark Webber, finished 14th overall due to a long stop for repairs.
There are six more races to go, and Porsche is now leading in terms of manufacturers' standings and drivers' standings.
