Wrapping up its 51st edition under local television station TVB this past week, the Miss Hong Kong Pageant garnered plenty of fanfare from audiences and the media alike. With a five-decade history, the pageant is one of the channel’s longest-running programmes.

The station’s flagship beauty pageant gave rise to some of the biggest stars in Asian entertainment, including familiar names such as Cannes Film Festival best actress Maggie Cheung, actress and socialite Michele Reis, and Hong Kong Film Awards best actress winner Anita Yuen.

For years, winning the top spot in the pageant was a sure way to break into the Hong Kong entertainment scene. Winners and runners-up often were guaranteed contracts with TVB, where many would hone their acting skills in various drama series.

This year’s winner Hilary Chong and first and second runners-up Lynn Wang and Lovelle Wang will surely be on the fast track too with their titles in tow.

Chong took home the 2023 Miss Hong Kong title at the tender age of 21. Chong has a lot more going on than her good looks too – she’s a food and nutrition science student at the University of Hong Kong, per Yahoo! News.

Based on the handful of posts on her Instagram profile, Chong appears to be an avid traveller who loves to explore different cultures through traditional attire. She opted to tour Thailand wearing a traditional chut thai and explored the temples of Kyoto in kimono.

Outside of her travels, Chong, who’s been dubbed a lookalike of K-pop idol IU, is mainly seen dressed down in T-shirts and jeans.

Hailing from Jiangsu province, first runner-up Lynn Wang also nabbed the title of Miss Photogenic. The 21-year-old is currently a communications student at Hong Kong Baptist University.

Though she’s not on Instagram, the runner-up is said to have a significant following on the Chinese social media platform Xiaohongshu. There, she shares photos of her daily life, where she’s often seen pairing her long, flowing locks with sporty casual wear.

3. Second runner-up: Lovelle Wang

Wang has had plenty of on-screen and performance experiences before entering the pageant. The Hong Kong-born beauty queen grew up in Singapore and later ventured to Beijing, where she enrolled in Zhang Zi-yi and Gong Li’s alma mater, The Central Academy of Drama.

Besides acting, she’s a seasoned guzheng player and has entered competitions in her teenage years in Singapore. Her love for music also extends to K-pop; she shared photos showing how she enjoyed herself at the Macau leg of Blackpink’s concert tour earlier this year.

Her Instagram reveals her personal style of flowy feminine looks. But it also seems like she’s not afraid to experiment with edgier ‘fits, such as figure-hugging cropped tops and jackets.
