Five best Mother’s Day menus in Hong Kong

Show mum some love this Mother’s Day by taking her out for a delicious meal. Here are five of the best:

Rech

You will definitely impress mum with a table at newly opened Rech by Alain Ducasse at the InterContinental Hong Kong. The venue is elegant yet relaxing, with a magnificent view of the harbour.

The menu offers the Best of Rech, featuring a selection of signature dishes including fresh oysters from France, a quartet of starters, cookpot of tiny spelt with squid and sesame, wild cod aïoli, duck with mango, famous Camembert and “Paris Parisienne” pastries.The lunch is inclusive of pressed organic fruit and vegetable juice, wine pairing selections by the head sommelier and a glass of Alain Ducasse Champagne served with the famous Camembert and dessert, plus tea and coffee. Adults: HK$888; children (3-6 years old): HK$618. Sunday lunch: noon – 2.30pm

Howard’s Gourmet

Say thanks to mum with two unique dishes created by renowned restaurateur Howard Cai especially for Mother’s Day and only available at his restaurant Howard’s Gourmet in Central. He created stewed fish maw with fresh tomato, and sea cucumber green bean sweet soup.

The special combination of fish maw and fresh tomato maintains the softness and sweetness of both ingredients; while the sea cucumber from Australia is specially treated to perfect the sweetness in the green bean soup. Mother’s Day lunch & dinner menus are available at HK$1,000 and HK$2,000 respectively. Usually open from Monday to Saturday, Howard is opening his restaurant especially for mums this Sunday from noon – 2.30pm and 6pm – 10.30pm

Gaddi’s

For classic Hong Kong nostalgia, Gaddi’s is the perfect venue for treating mum to five-star dining. Hong Kong’s original French fine-dining restaurant, Gaddi’s has been delighting the most refined palates for more than 60 years. In honour of Mother’s Day, chef Xavier Boyer has created a special four-course lunch menu, priced at HK$828, that showcases his unique take on classic French cuisine.

For starters Kristal caviar on potato ice cream with Iberico de bellota ham and beetroot sponge is paired with NV Laurent Perrier, Brut, Reims, France. For mains, there is a choice of poached monkfish or beef fillet with white asparagus and yellow wine sauce. The menu finishes on a sweet note of a delicious baked yoghurt-honey espuma with Champagne ice cream and lavender granite. What makes Gaddi’s extra-special is its exceptional service. Lunch: noon – 2.30 pm; dinner: 6.30 pm – 10.30 pm

The Continental

Make Mother’s Day special at The Continental on Level 4 of Pacific Place with an exclusive menu for brunch and dinner. Gourmet delights on the set menu include lobster and avocado with shaved coconut or wild mushroom veloute with toasted fregola and truffle cream.

48 hrs Snack column :

For mains, there’s Josper grilled beef tenderloin or pan seared salmon, and strawberry meringue cake or raspberry tart for dessert. All mums will also receive a complimentary glass of Rosé and a special treat from Jing Tea. Lunch HK$350; dinner HK$475. Sunday: 11am – 10.30 pm

Rhoda

There is nothing but love for mums at Rhoda where chef Nate Green dishes up a special Mother’s Day lunch featuring Rhoda’s Sunday roast of wild Hereford striploin, Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes, peas and bacon, glazed carrots and braised red cabbage or live-caught New Zealand salmon with crushed potatoes and sorrel sauce.

The starters feature rillette of Mangalica pork shoulder or carrot and coriander soup with hazelnut and tarragon. And don’t count the calories today, enjoy a dessert of vanilla cheesecake with crushed raspberries or Eton Mess with strawberries, cream meringue and Japanese green tea. Lunch set: HK$348. Noon to 4pm.
