New RTHK chief backs internal promotion to name his successor
New broadcasting director backs calls for internal successor who will be familiar with operations

RTHK's next chief should be drawn from within its own ranks, new director of broadcasting Leung Ka-wing says - instead of an outsider like himself.
Leung's candid admission to the city's media, two weeks after he took office, came amid criticism from staff of the public broadcaster that the government had again failed to fill the top post with an internal promotion.
The new man at the helm conceded yesterday that it was tough for a non-RTHK person to lead the station because of a lack of familiarity with its work.
"[An outsider] cannot even figure out how to get around in this place," Leung, a former news chief at both TVB and ATV, said in his first gathering with print media since his appointment. "I hope 100 per cent [my] successor will be an RTHK staff member.
"I had said during the interview the post should be an internal promotion as I did not really care [if I got the job]."
But he would not actively reflect this opinion to the government, he said.
