TOKYO - Three men who allegedly murdered a man then barbecued and curried his remains were last night being held by authorities in Japan. The trio are suspected of using a hammer to dismember Kazuyuki Kobayashi, before grilling parts of his body and getting rid of the remains in mountains. TV Asahi said two of the men confessed to stabbing Kobayashi, who went missing in 2009. Tasuku Shimaoka, 34, Keita Yoshida, 30, and Koji Kawamura, 40, were arrested last week. Local reports said Shimaoka owed money to Kobayashi. AFP
BANDA ACEH, Indonesia - A rare Sumatran tiger has died after its flight to an Indonesian animal refuge was aborted because plane passengers complained about the smell. The eight-year-old tiger was sent with other animals on a commercial flight on Tuesday from Banda Aceh on Sumatra island to a conservation centre on Java island. But during a stopover in Medan, Sumatra, national carrier Garuda Indonesia decided to unload the animals and return them. AFP
PHNOM PENH - Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen lashed out at a UN human rights envoy for writing "untrue" reports about the country, saying he should worry about his homeland Nepal instead. The attack follows a scathing report by Surya Subedi last month that said a series of Cambodian land disputes "indicate an increasingly desperate and unhappy population". Hun Sen's remarks appear to be the strongest yet against the Oxford-educated law professor, who became UN special rapporteur for human rights in Cambodia in 2009 after his predecessor resigned amid a war of words with Phnom Penh.
