A South Korean court has ordered Samsung Electronics to pay millions of dollars to a former employee who developed key technologies for the firm's lucrative television business, an official said. The ex-worker, surnamed Chung, had filed a suit against Samsung accusing it of scrimping on bonus payments after he had developed some 20 technologies - later patented - for the firm's television business from 1991 to 1995.

KUALA LUMPUR - Malaysia's leader warned voters their country risks economic collapse if the opposition wins national elections that must be held by mid-2013. Prime Minister Najib Razak opened his ruling party's annual congress with a forceful speech urging supporters to brace for one of Malaysia's most intensely fought elections. TOKYO - The race to elect a successor to colourful and controversial Tokyo governor Shintaro Ishihara kicked off with his handpicked nominee expected to cruise to victory. Ishihara, a right-wing firebrand who is widely blamed for exacerbating Japan's territorial row with China, abruptly resigned to lead a new political party in a December 16 general election that coincides with the city poll. His chosen successor, deputy governor Naoki Inose, 66, a prize-winning author like Ishihara, has a commanding lead among the nine candidates, analysts say. AFP
