79 Filipinos held in Borneo operation

KUALA LUMPUR - Malaysian police said they had detained 79 suspects linked to Filipino intruders in Borneo as they intensify an operation to flush out members of a Filipino Muslim clan who took over a village last month. The armed clansmen have caused political havoc for Malaysia and the neighbouring Philippines by trying to stake a long-dormant royal territorial claim to Malaysia's sprawling, resource-rich state of Sabah in Borneo. Police said 79 men and women, held without trial under a security law, were being investigated for their links to the gunmen. AP

Tokyo activists demand end to atomic power

TOKYO - Thousands of people rallied in a Tokyo park, demanding an end to atomic power and vowing never to give up the fight, despite two years of little change after the nuclear disaster in northeastern Japan. Gathering two days ahead of the second anniversary of the March 11 earthquake and tsunami that sent the Fukushima Daiichi plant into multiple meltdowns, demonstrators expressed alarm over the government's eagerness to restart reactors.
