US soldier jailed for unauthorized handling of secret Cambodia files
A military jury has convicted a Hawaii-based US army officer of unauthorized possession of classified documents and giving a document with classified assessments of Cambodia to a person not entitled to possess it.
A jury sentenced Major Seivirak Inson to 10 years confinement, dismissal from the army and forfeiture of pay.
A panel of seven officers returned the verdict against Inson on Friday after a four-day court martial at Wheeler Army Airfield.
The jurors convicted Inson, who was born in Cambodia, of possessing a US Pacific Command maritime strategy document and other military intelligence documents that he wasn't authorized to have.
They found him guilty of failing to report his contacts with Cambodian military and government officials to his chain of command. He was also convicted of adultery and fraudulently signing a bank document.
Inson was acquitted of collecting information on service members of Cambodian descent with the intention of giving the information to Cambodian military and government officials.
