North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un had a woman believed to be his ex-girlfriend executed by firing squad last week, South Korea’s largest daily newspaper reported.

Singer Hyon Song-wol and 11 other entertainers were arrested on August 17 accused of violating North Korean laws on pornography by filming themselves having sex and selling the videos, some of which were sold in China, said the Seoul-based Chosun Ilbo.

The 12 were members of North Korea’s most popular music troupes Unhasu Orchestra and the Wangjaesan Light Music Band.

Three days after their arrest, the group were shot with machine guns while their family members watched, a source told the paper.

After the executions, family members of the victims were taken to prison camps while the Unhasu Orchestra and Wangjaesan Light Music Band were disbanded.

North Korea’s supreme leader met Hyon about 10 years ago when both of them were unmarried, but his father Kim Jong-il ordered the relationship to stop, reported Chosun Ilbo. Since then Hyon reportedly married a soldier and Kim Jong-un married Ri Sol-ju, but there had been rumours the pair were still having an affair.

Before Ri Sol-ju married the current leader of the communist country she had also been a member of the Unhasu Orchestra.
