The death of the 37-year-old local government official, who worked for the Gyeonggi Institute of Science and Technology Promotion, was announced as police launched an investigation into Friday's incident at an outdoor pop concert in the city of Seongnam.

"I am sorry for the dead victims ... Please take good care of my children", he wrote in a short message to his wife, according to officials.
He was found dead at 7am yesterday after having been interrogated by police over the disaster, YTN TV said.
The victims were standing on a ventilation grate to get a better view of popular girl band 4Minute when it collapsed, sending them plunging 18.7 metres into an underground car park. Eight survivors are battling life-threatening injuries in hospital.
