A resident at an apartment in the Malaysian town of Relau, had the fright of her life when she saw a man wandering around the apartment block, stark naked.

The resident, who refused to be identified, said the man revealed himself to her when she stepped out of the lift at 1am. Only his feet were covered. He sensibly had on socks and shoes.

She said the man, who was carrying a straw fan in his hand, had ignored her and continued walking around the apartment block.

“I was worried for my safety so I immediately called the Paya Terubong Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) service team for help,” she said.

Paya Terubong JKKK’s chairman Frankie Kee, who is also special assistant to Paya Terubong assemblyman Yeoh Soon Hin, said a service team member, who received the call immediately, alerted the police.

“Three of our members also went to the scene with the police and found the man there.

“The man claimed that he was walking around naked because Goddess Mazu (a Chinese sea goddess) had asked him to strip,” he said.

Kee said the man had refused to put on his clothes despite repeated appeals.

“He only put on his clothes after one of our member pretended to be possessed by Goddess Mazu and asked him to put on his clothes.

“He was then taken away by the police,” he said.

Northeast district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mior Faridalathrash Wahid said the man, aged 38, was sent to the Psychiatric Ward at Jalan Perak for observation.
