Top Shanghai judges sacked for hiring escorts

Overindulgence leads to leniency for official in sex scandal

One of the Shanghai judges embroiled in the latest sex scandal to hit China has managed to escape with a more lenient punishment than his lascivious cohorts.

But how? According to , his excessive wining and dining rendered him impotent.

And what was his prize? He was allowed to retain his Communist Party membership, at least for now, authorities said.

Wang Guojun, the deputy chief tribunal judge of the No 5 civil court was stripped of his government post and placed on party probation for two years.

He was filmed with two other judges and a discipline inspection official wining and dining in a luxury resort.

But Wang did not join his peers when they took prostitutes to their rooms, according to an investigation report by municipal officials.

This apparently gave Wang an edge when authorities reviewed the case as the other three officials were all expelled from the Communist Party.

Meanwhile many internet users voiced their opinions.

“In a way he is not such a bad official. He would not need to sleep with prostitutes if he keeps a mistress,” one user said.

“There are some benefits of drinking too much after all,” added another.

But several online users suspected that Wang simply pretended to be drunk to avoid participating.
