Caught on camera: high-pressure fountain blasts boy 2m into the air

Little boy cut and bruised by powerful water fountain in Enshi

A little boy playing in a fountain received a nasty surprise when the fountain shot him a full two metres into the air, leaving him bruised and battered.

The incident occurred on August 1, although images of the accident have only recently been revealed on Chinese media sites. The little boy had been frolicking around the Xinjian Cultural Centre square’s musical fountain, located in Hubei province’s Enshi city. He was sent flying upwards after he stepped on an opening for one of the fountain’s high pressure water jets.

After he toppled back to the ground in tears, bystanders confirmed the fountain’s water jets had ripped through his underwear, and the collision with the ground had bloodied his nose and lips. Luckily, the boy had no serious injuries.

According to news reports, the fountain has been a popular destination since the Xinjian Cultural Centre was built, and attracts a large crowd each night. Although the fountain was cordoned off with signs advising visitors to stay clear of its high pressure jets, this does little to stop people.

Commentators on China’s Sina Weibo social network were sympathetic to the boy, but also said he should not have been playing in the fountain.

“If you don’t do stupid, dangerous things, then you won’t have to deal with stupid, dangerous consequences,” one netizen wrote.
