College student found after going missing for four days

A female Guangzhou college student was found on Thursday four days after reports that she was missing and a mysterious text message prompted a police investigation.

Xie Sujuan, a second year student at the South China University of Technology, was found on Thursday, said a statement published on the university’s official account on microblog Sina Weibo.

Xie’s sister confirmed with the on Thursday afternoon that police had located Xie, but declined to disclose more details.

A student in the School of Business Administration, Xie was reported missing on Monday, the first day of the new semester. She was last seen walking to a school library the night before her disappearance, according to .

But what was more mysterious about the case was that Xie’s cousin received a text message from her the next morning that read “help”, the report said. Repeated calls made by the cousin to Xie’s mobile phone went unanswered.

Xie’s parents arrived at the university on Wednesday, while local Huadu district police were co-ordinating with the school in searching for the woman. The police declined to comment on the case on Thursday.

News of the missing student was first made public by a weibo user claiming to be one of Xie’s classmates, and spread quickly on China’s blogsphere with a total of 200,000 comments and retweets as of Thursday.

“On behalf of the university and the student’s parents, we would like to express our sincere thanks to all … who helped search for the student,” said SCUT on its official Sina Weibo account.
