The flight attendant wannabe, 13, who won't leave airport

A 13-year-old girl who dresses like a flight attendant and maintains that her ambitions lie in the sky has baffled her parents and local police by insisting on roaming around Guangzhou’s airport.

The girl, Luo Siqi, who has been lingering around the Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport since July, first came to the notice of local police officers in August when they decided to question her for the first time.

At the time, she was dressed in a China Southern Airlines’ flight attendant uniform and was carrying documents about the airline.

Police twice in August escorted her to a Guangzhou children’s welfare centre, but she insists on returning to the airport.

Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport was unavailable for comment on Tuesday.

“I am truly in love with the sky. Let me go to the airport,” she was reported by the as telling police.

Appearing more mature than her years, the girl told the that she was abandoned by her biological parents shortly after she was born, and had since been adopted and re-homed more than once.

Luo, who has graduated from elementary school but is not enrolled in middle school, lives in the nearby city of Luoding with her cousin, a relative of her adoptive father who now lives in an elderly care centre.

Luo left home for Guangzhou in July after deciding to “take a look at the big city”, according to the paper.

“I love blue sky, and have always dreamed of flying. By doing this, I am a bit closer to my dream,” she said when asked to explain her behaviour.

Luo said she got her outfits online. “I once bought four suits at the same time, [to accommodate] four different seasons.”

On Taobao.com, China’s largest online shopping site, a costume that resembles that of a China Southern Airlines flight attendant’s uniform costs between 280 and 3,000 yuan.
