Gary Locke, the American ambassador to China, will be stepping down early next year, the American embassy said in a statement on Wednesday.

The former secretary of commerce and governor of the state of Washington said he had informed US President Barack Obama earlier this month of his wish to leave his post to join his family in Seattle, Washington.

The 63-year-old is the first American ambassador of Chinese descent to serve in the post. Locke had been confirmed unanimously by the US senate to succeed John Huntsman in June 2011.

So, what's the big deal here?
Just one less person to show the Chinese officials that not all senior government officials lead extravagant lifestyles using public funds.
you must be kidding me... Gary Locke, when he leaves government, is set to make a lot more. he will join K street lobbying firm, sit on fortune 100 corp board, arranging multibillion $ business deals.... like every politician in US, government job is just a stepping stone to become multimillionaires.
