New | CPPCC deputy is latest Chinese official to be investigated in corruption crackdown

The Central Commission for Discipline Inspection of the Chinese Communist Party places Yang Gang under investigation

Yang Gang, a deputy director of the economic affairs committee at the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), has been placed under investigation for violations of the law and party discipline, the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection of the Communist Party of China announced on its website on Friday morning.

Yang has become the latest high-profile official to be targed in a sweeping anti-corruption campaign launched by President Xi Jinping when he took power.

Yang was born in 1953 in Hebei province, according to his public profile. He previously worked as the deputy head of the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine before taking up his latest position at CPPCC.

CPPCC is a political advisory body in China that consists of delegates from a range of political parties and organizations, as well as independent members.
