Hong Kong has seen its fair share of political protest from annual Tiananmen Square vigils to outright clashes with police over the last 17 years as a Special Administrative Region of China. Grievances vary from year to year, but calls for universal suffrage, freedom of speech and the protection of the rule of law remain constant.
