Eyes burned by lamp
A woman’s eyes were accidently burned by ultraviolet lamps at a hospital in the capital, the Beijing Times reports. The woman went in for an intravenous drip, but during the procedure the nurse accidentally turned on an ultraviolet lamp, which is used to help sterilise areas of the hospital.  Doctors said the effects were temporary and her eyes should heal in a few days.
Truck flattens van
A truck carrying concrete in the capital crashed and completely flattened a van, the Beijing Times reports. The truck driver lost control making a turn and smashed into the minivan yesterday morning. Nobody was injured.

Murder victim found
The body of a woman who had been raped and killed has been found in an abandoned house in Shaoguan , the news website Chinanews.com  reports. The woman’s father found the body and alerted the police on Tuesday. He had reported her missing the previous day. 
Stabbed in office row
A man has died and two others were seriously injured after they were attacked with a knife by a fellow member of staff at an electronics company in the Baiyun   district of Guangzhou, the news website Chinanews.com reports. The suspect got into an argument with his colleagues at their office on Wednesday and picked up a knife and attacked them. He has been arrested. No details were given of what started the dispute.
 
HUBEI
Pupil injured in dare
A 12-year-old boy from Wuhan  jumped from the second floor of a school building and broke his leg after a teacher dared pupils to do it for 50 yuan (HK$63 yuan), the Beijing Times reports. The fourth grader’s teacher walked into the classroom after pay day and claimed he would give the cash to any pupil who jumped off the building. The hospital authorities said the boy may never fully recover from his injuries. The teacher has been fired. 
Schoolboy ‘kidnapped’
A boy who arrived more than three hours late for school told his teachers he had been abducted to cover his absence, prompting a police investigation, the Chutian Metropolis Daily reports. The boy, aged 12, from Zhushan  county near Shiyan ,  said that on his way to classes a man abducted him, took him to a remote area, taped his mouth, bound his hands and asked for ransom money. He said the kidnapper took his school books to sell and let him go.  The boy admitted lying and said he had just hidden his books.

Child peeing assault
Two members of staff on the subway in Wuxi  were assaulted when they tried to stop a small child urinating, the news website Chinanews.com reports. A cleaner saw a man holding up a child to urinate near the platform. She offered to show them the bathroom or give them a temporary plastic bag, but the man refused and spat in her face. Another subway station employee went to help and a woman with the man slapped her face twice. She also hit the other employee. The entire incident was caught on camera and the police are trying to find the pair.
Household chores
Women really do take on more housework than men, according a survey in the province, the news website Njnews.cn  reports. Women do an average of 2.5 hours housework a day compared with 1.6 hours for men.  Health authorities in the province polled 12,420 people in the survey.

Dancers on train row
A group of middle-aged woman organised a square dancing session on a train, prompting complaints from other passengers about the noise and disruption, the Dalian Evening News  reports. At about 8pm on Sunday passengers on a Dalian  to Shanghai service suddenly heard loud music coming from a carriage and about 20 women lined up and started dancing. Passengers said the women were disturbing their rest and blocking passageways. Dancers, often elderly, using public areas are the source of frequent complaints about noise and anti-social behaviour on the mainland.
Movie premiere in Dalian
A Hollywood movie has held its mainland premiere in Dalian, the Dalian Evening News reports. The film, Non-Stop  starring Liam Neeson,  is about a retired air marshal involved in a hijacking drama. The premiere was held at the Huachen  Theatre on Wednesday.

‘London’ cabs on streets
Gold coloured London-style cabs are to ply their trade on the city’s streets next month, the website Shanghaidaily.com  reports. The 200 taxis made by the mainland manufacturer Geely  are in the final stage of production. The cabs have a larger interior than normal taxis and fares will start at 19 yuan rather than the usual 14 yuan.
Dog owner bites cop
A woman who tried to sneak her dog past security checks at a subway station in the city bit a police officer twice, the website Xinmin.news365.com.cn  reports. The woman had a dog in her bag and was refused entry. As the officer lectured her about public transportation safety issues, she bit them on the finger twice. One of her friends also hit the police officer. The woman and man have been arrested.

Master of paper planes
A 70-year-old man from Chengdu  has spent his spare time making hundreds of thousands of model aircraft by folding waste paper, the news website Chinanews.com reports. The man, a retired teacher, uses origami to produce models of transport aircraft, military planes and airliners. 
Woman with no identity
A 20-year-old woman from a village near Dazhou   cannot go to school, get married, or have a bank account because her parents did not organise her household registration when she was born, the news website Newssc.org reports. The woman was forced to drop out of formal education after primary school as she did not have an identity card. The report said her parents think women are inferior to men and do not need to register their identity with the state.
 
ZHEJIANG
Nuisance caller detained
A man from Lanxi  has been put in detention for making 106 nuisance calls to the emergency services over the past year, the Qianjiang Evening  News reports. The police received a call from the %49-year-old on Sunday and he told them repeatedly that he %had killed somebody. Police investigated and found the man had phoned the emergency services over 100 times within the past 12 months because his wife had left him and he had nowhere to vent his frustrations. He has been detained for five days.
Fight over shared toilet
Two women in Ningbo  got into a brawl in a dispute over using a shared bathroom, the Qianjiang Evening News reports. Four families share one flat and bathroom and the dispute started when one of the women walked into the unlocked toilet and disturbed the other’s husband. Police said they had to force the women apart during their fight.
