‘Zoo’ at shopping mall
A small zoo has been set up at a shopping mall in the capital to attract customers, The Beijing News reports. The animals on display include rabbits, alpacas and pigs. Staff said all the animals came from Haidian district in the capital and will stay at the mall until the beginning of October. 
Stabbed at subway
A teenager died after two students got into an argument and one stabbed the other outside a subway station in the capital, The Beijing News reports. The fight started outside the Pingguoyuan station on Tuesday morning. Witnesses said the boy who died was aged about 17 and he was stabbed in the chest. The other boy was arrested at the scene as he waited next to the body for the police to arrive. The vice-chairman of the boys’ college said it was unclear what started the argument.
 
CHONGQING
Boy has breast cancer
A seven-year-old boy from the municipality has been diagnosed with breast cancer, the Chongqing Evening News reports. About 1 per cent of breast cancer cases around the world are in men and boys. The boy’s parents said the child was weak when he was born and they gave him lots of medicines and supplements. One doctor said high levels of the female hormone oestrogen in his system might have contributed to the cancer.
Gold discarded in rubbish
Gold necklaces worth of over %1 million yuan (HK$1.26 million) were thrown away by mistake in the rubbish, the Chongqing Evening News reports. The necklaces were sent to a jewellery store in the municipality from Shenzhen and when staff were stocktaking they found more than 20 were missing. Surveillance video showed a bag of the jewellery was thrown away with the rubbish. The jewellery store has alerted the police. 
 
FUJIAN
Peeping Tom arrested
A man has been arrested for allegedly using a mini camera hidden in an old milk cartoon to film women in a public toilet, the Southeast Express reports. The 32-year-old put the carton in a toilet at a university in Fuzhou . A student found the device and reported it to a security guard. The suspect was found loitering near another toilet in the building.
Massive water bill
People living in a residential building in Fuzhou were shocked to see a notice saying they owed the municipal water supply company more than 500,000 yuan and faced a fine of almost 7 million yuan for non-payment of charges racked up over 15 years, the Strait City Daily reports. Residents suspect there were leaks in water pipes to the building, according to the report. 
 
HEBEI
Bus seats stand-off
An elderly man and a middle-aged woman blocked the road and stopped a bus from leaving in Baoding because no younger people on board would give up their seat for them, the Baoding Evening News reports. The pair said they were also angry because the bus driver did not help them. The stand-off lasted more than two hours, causing a severe traffic jam. Police arrived and convinced the pair to leave.
College student raped
A student who was lured to stay at a stranger’s flat overnight in Baoding was raped, the Baoding Evening News reports. The woman from Shaanxi  province was waiting at a railway station overnight for a friend to arrive when a man pretended to befriend her and said she could rest at a flat. She was then attacked at the apartment. Two men have been arrested. Police are also looking for another suspect.
 
HEILONGJIANG
Car driven into river
A motorist had to be rescued by firefighters when she mistook the accelerator pedal for the brake and drove a four-wheel drive into the Mudan River in Mudanjiang, the Life News reports. The car was about 10 metres from the bank when firefighters arrived and the young woman was yelling for help. A firefighter  swam to the car with safety rope and rescued her. The woman was inside the car with all the windows closed, according to the report.
Bride-to-be burned
A stylist at a wedding photo studio accidentally burned a bride-to-be’s face with a high-heat curling iron, leaving 3cm scar her face, Daqing Daily reports. The owner of the studio promised to give 5,000 yuan in compensation to cover surgery to remedy the burn. The bride’s father said she should not change the wedding date and he wanted the studio to pay 30,000 yuan. The two sides are still negotiating the level of compensation.
 
SHANXI
Wandering in fast lane
A mentally ill woman ran into the middle of a highway in Shuozhou  and started directing traffic, the Shanxi Evening News reports. The woman was waving one arm and jumping up and down in the fast lane. Police stopped the traffic and managed to lead her to safety. She was given 100 yuan to take a taxi home.
Sickening food contest
A man who won a contest at a restaurant in Taiyuan to eat the most ramen noodles was sent to hospital with gastric bleeding, the Shanxi Evening News reports. The man ate eight bowls of noodles, but was immediately taken ill. He had to stay in hospital for over a week. His prize in the contest was a 200 yuan coupon at the restaurant. The prize for eating 10 bowls, which nobody managed, was a mobile phone.
 
YUNNAN
Pole dance on subway
Middle-aged passengers performed an impromptu “pole dance” on the subway in Kunming , the Chuncheng Wan Bao reports. Other passengers posted a video online of the dance which lasted about three minutes. The dance was started by a middle-aged woman and, after being cheered on, another man joined in. A spokesman for the subway company said dancing on the train network disturbed social order and should not be encouraged.
Fraudster gets 15 years
The owner of a liquor trading company in Kunming stole and sold stock to pay off his debts, the Metropolis Times reports. He has been jailed for 15 years and fined 100,000 yuan. He stole more than 10 million yuan worth Chinese liquors. The stock was mortgaged to a bank and he argued he did not know that taking it and selling it on his own behalf was a crime.
 
ZHEJIANG
Missing girl’s body found
The body of a girl from a village near Wenzhou  who had been missing for 24 days was found at a public toilet across the street from her house, the Today Morning Express reports. Police allege that the 13-year-old was killed by her father. He is said to have admitted to the police that he could not afford to raise the child and he was annoyed by her moods. Medical staff are examining the body.
Tremors near Wenzhou
More than 400 tremors have shaken Wencheng county near Wenzhou since September 12, the City Express reports. The strongest was magnitude 4, which is classified as a light quake. It was the most powerful tremor in the area for eight years. More than 1,500 homes have suffered some damage in the tremors. The deputy chief of the local seismological bureau said tremors were not unusual or cause for concern.
