Knifeman arrested
Police arrested a man who was threatening people with a knife in the street in Hefei, the Shichang Xingbao reports. Officers said the man had taken drugs and they had to fire a warning shot in the air for him to give himself up after a stand-off that lasted about an hour. The man said he was hallucinating that people were trying to attack him. He has been detained for 20 days. 
Wife held hostage
A man from Shucheng county near Luan held his wife hostage because he wanted to go to prison to try to avoid paying off his debts, the news website Ahwang.cn reports. The man owed more than 1 million yuan and neighbours saw him holding a knife to his wife’s neck. Police had to force their way into his house and restrain him by hitting him with a steel pole. 
 
GUANGDONG
Baby crushed in bed
A father in Shenzhen accidentally killed his month-old son after he rolled into him while he was asleep, the Southern Metropolis News reports. The father found the baby had blood in his nose and mouth when he woke up in the morning. The child was taken to hospital, but died later. Police said the baby probably suffered internal injuries after he was partially crushed. Doctors said parents should not sleep in the same bed as their babies.
Inmate collapses, dies
A man from Zhuhai  has died after he was held at a detention centre, the Southern Metropolis News reports. The man owned an electronics store had been accused of distributing pornography. He passed out at the centre and died later in hospital. His girlfriend said there was evidence of injuries on his body, including blood in his left ear. Police are investigating.
 
GANSU
‘Serial rapist’ arrested
A high school student aged 18 has been arrested after he allegedly robbed and raped several women in Ning county near Qingyang , the Lanzhou Morning Post reports. He started robbing people in July and his first alleged rape was the following month. His first victim was dragged into an alley and attacked. He then took her mobile phone.
Graft official scam
A woman in Longnan  posed as a government anti-corruption investigator to get the bank details of an official’s wife, Western Economic Daily reports. The woman owned a restaurant and could not afford to pay back her debts. She used the wife’s debit card to withdraw 89,000 yuan (HK$112,000). She later transferred 140,000 yuan from the woman’s bank account into her own. She has been arrested.
 
HENAN
Security guard jailed
A security guard at a shopping mall in Zhengzhou stole a customer’s wallet with 20,000 yuan left outside a changing room, the news website Zynews.com reports. To cover up his crime, the guard bribed his supervisor with half of the money. The guard was jailed for one year and four months.
Hand-holding ban lifted
A high school in Yanshi  has dropped a rule saying pupils holding hands will be expelled if they break the regulation twice, the Yangcheng Evening News reports. The rule prompted a lot of debate on social media.  Pupils still face expulsion if they date each other on campus.
 
Hubei
Disastrous date
A 25-year-old woman from Wuhan ordered a pricey 300 yuan steak at a restaurant on a first date to test the man’s sincerity and has not heard from him since, Chutian Metropolis Daily reports. The couple was introduced by a mutual friend. The woman said she regretted her expensive choice of main course.
Wild animals seized
Highway police in Suizhou  seized 39 cages of protected wild animals found on a truck, the Chutian Express reports. The animals included frogs, snakes and badgers. The truck driver claimed he knew nothing about the animals. He said he had been told someone would take care of them when he arrived in Guangdong. All of the animals will be released back to into the wild.
 
JIANGSU
19 bodies unclaimed
People in Xuzhou  were shocked to see a notice in a morning paper looking for information to identify 19 bodies, the news website ThePaper.cn reports. The notices were issued by the public safety bureau in Tongshan district and the unclaimed bodies were found between 2010 and this year.  The city morgue will be moved to another site and the authorities are trying to identify all the bodies stored there.
Naked on campus
Students at Hohai University in Nanjing  were surprised to see six young men running naked on the campus, the Modern Express reports. The six were actors filming a movie. They were spotted running in white sneakers and covered their faces with colorful silk scarves. The report said some passers-by covered their girlfriends’ eyes when they ran past. 
 
SHAANXI
Peeping Tom attacked
A teacher at Shaanxi University of Technology in Hanzhong  was badly injured as he tried to flee after he was caught secretly filming two students taking a shower, Shaanxi TV reported. The teacher, 34, jumped on to his motorbike but fell. He was seized by angry students who beat him. He is in intensive care in hospital.
Held over iPhones
Several students were held by custom officers with eight new iPhones at Xian  airport, Huashang Daily reports. The students are studying in Singapore and said the phones were not for sale. The iPhone 6 has yet to be given formal approval for sale on the mainland. After paying 10 per cent import duty, the students were released. 
 
SICHUAN
Fake note fail
A man from Ziyang  has been arrested for selling counterfeit 10 yuan notes, the news website Newssc.org reports. He started selling the fakes in October and was caught after a package he sent containing the counterfeits split open and a delivery man spotted the money. 
Police car crash row
A woman from Nanchong  who was disfigured in a police car crash has yet to receive any compensation, Chengdu Economic Daily reports. The woman, 36, had reported her daughter missing and was picked up in a police car last year. The car crashed, blinding her in the right eye and injuring her face.
