Knifeman arrested

Police arrested a man who was threatening people with a knife in the street in Hefei, the Shichang Xingbao reports. Officers said the man had taken drugs and they had to fire a warning shot in the air for him to give himself up after a stand-off that lasted about an hour. The man said he was hallucinating that people were trying to attack him. He has been detained for 20 days.

Wife held hostage

A man from Shucheng county near Luan held his wife hostage because he wanted to go to prison to try to avoid paying off his debts, the news website Ahwang.cn reports. The man owed more than 1 million yuan and neighbours saw him holding a knife to his wife’s neck. Police had to force their way into his house and restrain him by hitting him with a steel pole.
