Four new subway lines in the capital are near completion and test runs without passengers began earlier this month, the Beijing Times reports. The lines are due to formally open by the end of the year. Stations on lines 6, 7, 14 and 15 are decorated with different themes. The report said Line 6, which runs from the east to the west of the city, depicts historic canals.

A 4-metre deep hole in the ground has appeared in a road in the Wangjing district of the capital, the Beijing Times reports. The 2 square-metre sinkhole was caused by a broken pipe and was filled with sewage. Nobody was injured.
