Help with family diet
Families in Hefei are increasingly employing nutritionists to help them improve their diet, the news website Anhuinews.com reports. They typically pay an expert about 3,500 yuan (HK$4,400) a month to get advice on recipes and the right foods to eat, the report said. Companies are also hiring nutritionists to give lectures to their staff.
Green awareness
Hefei's education authority is trying to encourage primary and middle school pupils to save energy, the news website Anhuinews.com reports. Schools have put "save electricity" labels next to light switches. Some schools will also recycle old textbooks at the end of each term. Pupils have been taught to make handicrafts using household rubbish such as shoeboxes and old wall calendars.
Guizhou
Airport to open
The first civil airport at Renhuai , where the Kweichow Moutai Company produces its well-known Chinese liquor, is due to start operating in June 2016, the Guizhou Du Shi Bao newspaper reports. The project has formally been approved by the authorities. The single-runway airport is expected to cost 1.6 billion yuan.
Better school meals
More than four million rural primary and middle school pupils across the province will benefit from a scheme to improve their diet, the Guizhou Du Shi Bao reports. The state government has poured 2 billion yuan into the project, with another 196 million yuan coming from the provincial authorities. The children will get food high in protein, including milk and eggs. A Ministry of Health report two years ago said there was an increasing gap between the nutrition in food eaten by children in rural and urban areas.

Teenage girls brawl
Police had to intervene after a 16-year-old girl beat up a 14-year-old love rival in the street in Qionghai , the Southern Metropolis News reports. The older girl had given birth a month before and accused the other teenager of having an affair with her 17-year-old boyfriend. She learned of the relationship when she went to her boyfriend's home and an argument ensued. The parents of the three teenagers are trying to mediate in the dispute.
Fraudster gets 4 years
A fraudster from Tunchang county was sentenced to four years in jail by a court in Haikou for swindling a businessman out of 118,000 yuan, the Business Daily of International Tourism Island reports. The man promised to renovate a student dormitory and said he needed the money to bribe leaders at the college to win the contract. He then made off with the cash.
Hunan
13 squeezed into bus toilet
A driver tried to squeeze 13 passengers travelling on an overcrowded long-distance bus into a one-metre-square toilet during a random vehicle inspection, the Changsha Evening News reports. Inspectors in Yifeng county said that when they asked the driver why the toilet was locked, he mumbled that the door was broken. The authorities fined the bus driver 1,000 yuan and deducted 12 points off his driving licence.
Official 'took drugs'
The deputy secretary of the Hengyang transport department is under investigation for allegedly taking illegal drugs, The Beijing News reports. An unnamed source said that Zhao Yingfang had wet himself in an attempt to avoid taking a urine test. The report said others in the department have also been accused of drug taking.
Shanxi
Slot machines smashed
People scrambled to pick up coins as police in Taiyuan publicly destroyed more than 1,300 slot machines on Wednesday, Xinhua reports. It was part of a crackdown on gambling. Police said they had stopped 45 groups in the city who were using the machines for gambling.
Still doing splits at 96
A 96-year-old man from Taiyuan is still able to do the splits and can stretch his leg to rest on the top of his refrigerator, the Shanxi Evening News reports. Zhang Chenglin said he exercised every day by walking 1,000 steps and taking 200 stairs inside his residential block. The former construction worker only quit his job at the age of 78.
Tibet
Lake protection 
About a fifth of the country's lakes with high-quality clean water are in Tibet , the website Chinatibetnews.com reports. Some 365 lakes are deemed by the government to have high-quality water and 75 of them are in the autonomous region. The central government has issued guidelines on strengthening the protection of the lakes by 2020. Yamdrok Lake and Basongcuo Lake are in the top category because their crystal-clear water is devoid of pollution. The state authorities have required that local governments properly protect the lakes, which cover a total of 20 sq km.
More roads planned
There will be 110,000km of roads in the autonomous region by 2020, along with 1,300km of railway lines, according to a circular from the central government on the growth of the transportation sector, the news website Tibet.cn reports. Civil airports in the region are expected to receive a total of 7 million passengers a year by the end of the decade. Nearly 77 billion yuan was invested in building roads in the region over the past two decades. The authorities plan to inject another 8 billion yuan this year into rural highway construction.
Xinjiang
7 die in mine accident
Seven miners have been killed in an accident at a coal mine in Hutubi county, the news website Iyaxin.com reports. One miner was rescued and two others are missing. The workers come from around the country, including Henan and Sichuan provinces. Members of their families have gone to the mine to prepare for funerals.
Medical records lost
A couple from Karamay is appealing for information about their lost computer that contains their son's medical records about his leukaemia, the news website Iyaxin.com reports. The couple took an illegal taxi to catch a flight and in their rush left the computer in the car. The family of three is in Beijing seeking better medical treatment for their son.
Zhejiang
Security van in river
An armoured security van carrying banknotes crashed into a river near Lishui , the news website Zjol.com.cn reports. It took rescuers four hours to find the truck and another 90 minutes to pull it out of the fast-flowing river. None of the five security guards was injured. All 11 boxes of cash on board were safely retrieved. The report did not say how much money the truck was carrying.
Slum clearance plan
The government in Hangzhou is to be loaned 20 billion yuan to redevelop slum areas in the city, the news website Zjol.com.cn reports. The project will cover five counties in the city and will be carried out over three years. It forms part of huge development plans in the province, including building bridges and creating new commercial sectors. The authorities have secured 270 billion yuan in loans for the projects.
