Thirty-five private vehicles were vandalised in a car park in the Chaoyang district overnight on Saturday, the Beijing Evening News reports. The drivers called police on Sunday but found nothing had been stolen from their cars. The case is under investigation.
Artist arrested for drugs
Another artist has been detained by police for using crystal meth on Saturday, Caijing.com.cn reports, citing Beijing police. The 45-year-old actor and model, Hu Dong is the 10th celebrity, including movie and television stars, to be detained on drug offences in a vice crackdown in the capital. Jaycee Chan, son of Chinese kung fu star Jackie Chan, was formally arrested during a raid on his Beijing residence on August 14.

Maggots found in man
A 38-year-old businessman from Shenzhen returning from a business trip to Africa was found to have more than 20 maggots in his body, the Shenzhen Special Zone Daily reports. The man returned from Africa for treatment after suffering pain, itchy skin and red nodules on his belly and right thigh for months. A doctor removed more than 20 live Oestridae larvae from his body.
New traffic fines
Drivers in Shenzhen caught making phone calls while driving will be fined 300 yuan (HK$380) from January 1, according to a newly amended regulation, the Shenzhen Economic Daily reports. The new rules also increase the fine for driving in the wrong direction on highways and in tunnels, from 1,000 yuan to 3,000 yuan. Drivers face 1,000 yuan fines for not giving way to police vehicles, fire engines and ambulances.

New high-speed rail link
High-speed train services from Changsha to Shanghai are due to start by the end of the year, cutting the journey time from seven hours to less than five, the news website Dfdaily.com reports. The report said a one-way, first-class ticket for the trip would cost about 470 yuan, while a second-class ticket will be about 260 yuan.
23 hurt in bus crash
A tourist coach plunged into a seven-metre deep pit on Saturday in Xinning county, injuring 23 passengers, Xinhua reports. The accident happened at about 8am when the coach travelling near Zengfu village suddenly lost control and swerved into the ditch. The injured, including the driver, were sent to hospital.

Workers save infant
Two young migrant workers rescued a toddler trapped in the bars of a flower rack outside her fourth-floor flat in Wuxi on Sunday, the Wuxi Daily reports. The labourers were headed to work when they incident occurred. The girl, 3, climbed out her flat's window and onto the flower rack. She slipped between the bars and was left dangling by her neck about 20 metres off the ground. One of the men climbed onto a third-floor ledge just wide enough for his feet to get a hold and propped the girl up with his hands. The other man helped take her inside through a neighbour's window.
Faithful son
A middle-aged man travels 200km by train every day for work in Shanghai, refusing to live closer because he wants to look after his mother in Suzhou , China.com.cn reports. The son has journeyed 140,000km in total over the past three years and bought more than 1,400 train tickets. He wakes up at 5am to cook her breakfast and lunch before driving to the train station for his commute to Shanghai. He returns in time for supper. She took him in as an infant after his parents abandoned him.

Wanted for boy's deaths
A 50-year-old villager from Shangrao is wanted by police over the killing of two schoolboys on Friday, the Dahe Daily reports. A third boy was in critical condition after the incident. The man allegedly attacked the boys as they were walking home from school. The suspect had been released from prison in April after serving time for molesting an eight-year-old girl. Police have offered a 50,000 yuan reward for information leading to the man's arrest.
Persistent teen criminal
A 17-year-old in Yugan county has been arrested for theft, arson and attempted extortion, the news website Jxnews.com.cn reports. The teenager broke the window of a private car but discovered only 40 yuan in cash and a cellphone inside. Frustrated that the owner had left so few valuables for him to steal, the teen lit a wad of paper and threw it inside the car. The fire badly damaged the vehicle. He then used the stolen phone to call the owner, saying he had kidnapped a relative and was demanding a ransom of 100,000 yuan. Police were alerted and arrested him

Running in the rain
Rain did not stop more than 35,0000 people from taking part in the Shanghai International Marathon on Sunday, the news website Eastday.com reports. Stephen Mokoka from South Africa retained his men's title, with a time of two hours, eight minutes and 42 seconds, a record for the event, the report said. Mokoka won the race last year in two hours, nine minutes and 30 seconds.
Live poultry ban
The city will ban live poultry sales from February 19 to April 30 in an effort to prevent and control the spread of bird flu, the news website Thepaper.cn reports. Shanghai began its seasonal halt of live poultry sales last year, in a bid to stop the spread of H7N9 virus.

Filial piety museum
A museum dedicated to filial piety, the first of its kind in the country, opened on Saturday in Qionglai , Chinanews.com reports. More than 500 local residents and enterprises contributed more than 8 million yuan in funding for the project. It features objects and photos telling stories collected from around the country about people doing deeds for their parents.
City funds pollution fight
The municipal government of Chengdu will allocate 500 million yuan a year to combatting the city's air pollution, the Chengdu Daily reports. The authorities have also promised to ban all coal-burning boilers in the city by 2017.
Yunnan
9 missing confirmed dead
Police in Kunming confirmed yesterday all nine people who were buried in a landslide last week had died, the news website Yunnan.cn reports. The accident happened on Tuesday morning in Xiaoxin village near Kunming. Three people escaped but nine others were buried in the rubble. Two bodies had been recovered by Thursday and the rest were found by Sunday. Authorities had sent more than 400 rescuers to search for survivors at the disaster site.
Fine for fake liquor
A restaurant owner in Kunming has been ordered to pay 25,000 yuan in compensation to a customer after it sold him eight bottles of fake liquor, the Kunming Daily reports. The man bought eight bottles of what he believed was Wuliangye grain liquor, each costing 1,120 yuan, at the restaurant as part of a celebration. But his friends complained the liquor tasted substandard. The restaurant was allowed to continue operating and police were not seeking further penalties.
